Do I need a passport or visa to enter New Zealand?
All visitors to New Zealand must carry a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond the date you intend to leave the country. You will not require a visa.
What do I need to know about the New Zealand Traveller Declaration?
Everyone travelling into New Zealand must complete a declaration which collects travel, customs, immigration and biosecurity information. To make your arrival easier do your digital declaration before your flight to New Zealand, instead of filling in a paper declaration onboard. The earliest you can submit your declaration is 24 hours before you start your trip to New Zealand. It needs to be submitted by the time you reach passport control in New Zealand.
What type of charger do I need for my phone?
New Zealand and Australia both use the same Type I power plugs. No need to buy a converter!
Can I use my Australian bank card for purchases?
You can generally use your Australian bank cards (debit or credit) in New Zealand, especially if they have a Visa or MasterCard logo. Be aware that most banks will charge a foreign transaction fee when you use your Australian card in New Zealand.
When making purchases, it's generally recommended to opt to be charged in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) to avoid additional currency conversion fees. Ensure you know your PIN, as some merchants may not accept tap and pay for transactions.
Is there an alternative option to pay on card without foreign transaction fees?
The Australia Post Travel Platinum Mastercard offers benefits like secure travel spending, multi-currency loading, and zero foreign transaction fees when spending in the loaded currency, making it a convenient and budget-friendly option for international travel.
Should I inform my bank that I will be travelling out of Australia?
Yes. It is best to inform your bank that you are travelling to New Zealand prior to departure, otherwise they may think fraudulent activity is occurring with you card and put a hold on it.
Do you get charged fees for using the ATMs in New Zealand?
Yes, when using an ATM in New Zealand with a card from outside New Zealand, you'll likely be charged both an access fee (charged by the ATM operator) and a foreign transaction fee (charged by your bank).
What is the currency and should I carry cash?
The currency throughout New Zealand is NZ dollars. Your tour package includes most things. You may wish to purchase some lunches, souvenirs and do some general shopping, in which case you may wish to bring some local currency, perhaps $200 - $300 in small denominations ($20 & $10 notes). Alternatively, you can make purchases using visa or mastercard.

In summer, the average maximum temperature ranges between 20-30ºC
What clothes should I take?
Dress is informal and relaxed on most occasions. Smart casual clothes are acceptable at most restaurants. In summer a light jacket or sweater should be included in your luggage should the weather turn cooler. You can expect some rain, so include a light waterproof jacket or coat.
Will my mobile phone work in New Zealand?
Check with your phone company before leaving home about international mobile roam facilities available in New Zealand. If you need to contact family at home; email, Facebook messenger and WhatsApp are very useful.
