Day 1
Our adventure begins with a scenic drive from Hobart to the vibrant city of Launceston, where we'll prepare for an early flight to King Island tomorrow morning. Upon arrival, we'll check into the Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston. Launceston offers a plethora of dining options to suit every palate. Tonight, dinner is your choice! Perhaps there's a restaurant you've seen on TV and have been eager to try, or maybe you have a beloved favorite you return to time and again. Whether you're in the mood for fine dining, casual eats, or something in between, Launceston's vibrant food scene has you covered.
ATDay 2
After breakfast at your accommodation this morning we board Sharp Airlines' 19-seater plane for a unique and intimate journey from Launceston to King Island. Touching down just in time for lunch, we'll head straight into the heart of the island to explore the charming town of Currie. Here, you can immerse yourself in local history and culture at the King Island Cultural Centre, and marvel at the historic Currie Lighthouse, a beacon that has guided mariners since 1879. After soaking in the sights of Currie, we'll treat our taste buds to a delightful visit to King Island Dairy, renowned for its world-class cheeses. Enjoy a tantalizing cheese tasting session, savouring the unique flavours crafted from the island’s rich dairy heritage. As the afternoon winds down, we’ll make our way to Boomerang by the Sea, our comfortable and welcoming home for the duration of our King Island stay.
B, L , DDay 3
Prepare for a day filled with breathtaking landscapes and natural wonders as we explore the diverse beauty of King Island. We venture to the picturesque Quarantine Bay, with its pristine waters and stunning views, followed by a visit to the unique geological formations at Yellow Rock River. We'll then head to the world-famous Martha Lavinia Beach, known for its perfect surf breaks and unspoiled beauty. Our journey continues to Penny's Lagoon, a rare perched lake with crystal-clear waters ideal for a refreshing dip. From there, we’ll make our way to Cape Wickham, home to the tallest lighthouse in the Southern Hemisphere, offering spectacular coastal views. Disappointment Bay, despite its name, promises anything but disappointment with its rugged coastline and dramatic scenery. We'll wrap up our nature tour at Egg Lagoon, another beautiful natural spot.
B, L , DDay 4
Today's adventure takes us to the captivating eastern side of King Island, starting with the charming seaside village of Naracoopa. Known for its tranquil beaches and serene atmosphere, Naracoopa is a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll along the shoreline. Next, we visit Grassy, a historic mining town with fascinating remnants of its past and beautiful coastal views. We then head to the stunning Surprise Bay, where dramatic cliffs and crashing waves create a picturesque setting. Our exploration continues at the Calcified Forest, a remarkable natural wonder where ancient tree stumps have turned to stone over thousands of years. Seal Rocks offers another highlight with its rugged beauty and the chance to spot seals basking on the rocks. As the day draws to a close, we prepare for a magical evening experience. At dusk, we will have the unique opportunity to witness the fairy penguin colony as they make their way from the ocean to their burrows on the shore. Watching these adorable creatures waddle home is a truly enchanting sight and a perfect end to our day of exploration.
B, L , DDay 5
Our final full day on King Island offers a blend of history, industry, and culinary delight. We begin with a visit to the King Island Historical Society Museum, where you can delve into the island's rich past. Discover fascinating artifacts and stories that paint a vivid picture of the island's heritage, from its early settlement to its maritime history. Next, we head to the Kelp Processing Plant & Museum for an intriguing tour. Learn about the kelp industry that plays a significant role in King Island’s economy and see firsthand how kelp is harvested, processed, and transformed into valuable products. As our time on King Island draws to a close, we celebrate with a special farewell dinner at Wild Harvest. Renowned for its exquisite use of local produce, Wild Harvest offers a dining experience that showcases the best of King Island's culinary offerings. Savor delicious dishes crafted with fresh, local ingredients as we toast to the wonderful memories made during our stay.
