Today we embark on a short getaway to the captivating Tamar Valley Region of Tasmania, known for its scenic beauty and rich heritage. Begin your day with lunch in Ross, known for its beautifully preserved colonial architecture. Ross transports visitors back in time with its cobblestone streets, convict-built sandstone buildings, and picturesque stone bridge. The town is home to a number of captivating landmarks, including the Ross Female Factory Historic Site, where you can learn about the lives of female convicts.
The next stop is Franklin House, a captivating Georgian-style mansion preserved by the National Trust Tasmania. Step into the past and embark on a self-guided tour through this elegant residence. Admire the beautifully furnished rooms, discover intriguing stories of its former inhabitants, and gain insights into the colonial lifestyle of the early settlers.
As the day winds down, settle into the tranquil ambiance of Aspect Tamar Valley Resort in Grindelwald, your home for the night. Grindelwald is a unique Swiss-inspired village nestled amidst rolling hills and vineyards. The resort offers a charming alpine experience, where you can unwind in cosy chalet-style accommodations, surrounded by breathtaking mountain vistas. Immerse yourself in the serenity of nature, take a leisurely stroll through the manicured gardens, or partake in a variety of recreational activities such as mini-golf, paddle boating, or cycling. It's a truly enchanting escape that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and at peace.
Awaken to a new day of discovery. At Platypus House you have the incredible opportunity to witness one of Australia's most iconic and elusive creatures-the platypus-in their natural habitat. Enter a world of wonder as you observe these fascinating semi-aquatic mammals swimming, diving, and playing in specially designed enclosures. Knowledgeable guides provide valuable insights into the behaviour, biology, and conservation efforts surrounding these enchanting creatures. With their unique combination of mammalian and reptilian characteristics, platypuses are truly remarkable, and witnessing them up close is an experience that will leave you in awe of the wonders of nature.
Then continue to Seahorse World, a unique facility dedicated to the conservation and breeding of these mystical creatures. Begin your visit with a delightful lunch while overlooking the River Tamar. Then, embark on a guided tour that takes you into the mesmerizing world of seahorses. Witness their delicate beauty up close, learn about their remarkable life cycle, and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of marine conservation. It's a truly immersive experience that will leave you in awe of the wonders of the sea.
Next you are able to see history come alive at the Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre. Explore the underground workings of the mine on a captivating tour that reveals the challenges faced by miners in the past. Gain insight into the mining industry that shaped the region and learn about the gripping story of the 2006 mine rescue that captivated the nation. It's an expressive reminder of human resilience and a testament to the spirit of the local community.
Set off on an unforgettable adventure through the Tamar Valley. The Batman Bridge Luncheon Cruise combines stunning river views, delicious cuisine, and leisurely cruising in a comfortable and spacious vessel. As you glide along the tranquil waters, marvel at the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape, including vineyards, rolling hills, and charming riverside towns. As you enjoy your meal, the friendly crew will provide interesting commentary about the area's history, wildlife, and points of interest such as Batman Bridge and Cataract Gorge.
