Let’s make the most of our final day onboard the train. Once again you can choose your own adventure, this time we find ourselves in Coffs Harbour. One option is to take in the beauty of the rainforest from Sealy Lookout Forest Sky Pier and have a guided or self-guided tour of the Regional Botanic Garden, home to exotic plants from sub-tropical regions of the world. Another option is a guided bike tour alongside the Coffs River in which you can learn about the eco system and overlook the Solitary Islands National Park from North Point Lookout. You may otherwise choose to visit the seaside town, Urunga, to stroll along the beautiful coastal boardwalk with your local Indigenous guide to interpret the unique eco system. Learn about the rich cultural history of the Gumbaynggirr people during this wonderful intersection of nature and culture. Finally, there is an optional upgrade available which will take you on a hinterland helicopter flight*. View the diverse landscape of mountains and sea from above. This breathtaking flight will give you a birds eye view of the coastline, hinterland and Great Dividing Range. Lunch is aboard the train, so make sure you soak up all that the train has to offer before we arrive at our last stop in Brisbane. It is time to depart the Great Southern to check in to our accommodation at Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane where we enjoy dinner at Frescos Restaurant.
*Helicopter flight is an additional $275 per person
Day 5
Good morning Brisbane! Today we have a range of activities, but first we must fuel up with breakfast. We start the day visiting the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary which is the oldest and largest koala sanctuary in the world. The purpose of the sanctuary is to help people connect to nature by educating them on how to protect, respect and conserve wildlife, and the environment. There will be the opportunity to observe or get up close with the animals. Afterwards we head to the foot of Mount Coot-Tha where we find the Botanic Gardens, known for being Queensland’s leading subtropical botanic garden. Once you have had time to explore, we jump back on board the bus to take us further up the mountain to the Summit Lookout, the highest point in Brisbane with stunning panoramic views to look over the city and Moreton Bay. While up here you are welcome to purchase lunch at the café. It is time to descend from Mount Coot-Tha and make our way to the Airport for our return home.
