Hobart Arrival

Welcome to Tasmania! After a transfer to your Hobart Accommodation your Coach Captain will meet you and the group for a tour of the city and surrounds. Explore the historical Battery Point, Salamanca Place, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and the summit of Mt Wellington (weather permitting). The view from the summit stretches over Hobart and much of the state’s south, and the slopes are laced with walking trails.
This evening you will enjoy a welcome dinner, a great opportunity to converse with your fellow travelers on tour.

Hobart - Strahan

Today you depart into Tasmania's World Heritage wilderness and the rugged West Coast. Visit the Wall in the Wilderness, where a 100-meter-long wall of wooden relief sculpture depicting Tasmania's stories. Stop at Lake St Clair - Australia's deepest freshwater lake - and breathe in Tasmania's World Heritage wilderness. Further along the road, you will arrive at Queenstown, the gateway to the West Coast with a rugged mining history, a unique "moonscape" and loads of wild west appeal. Before reaching the village of Strahan on the West Coast, you stop at Franklin River and the stunning Nelson Waterfalls.

Strahan

Cruise across Macquarie Harbour to the tranquil reaches of the Gordon River. This experience is sure to be one of the highlights of your Tasmania tour. First stop is Heritage Landing in the rainforest, where you will take a walk among ancient temperate rainforest trees, many of them Gondwanan relicts. Learn about the historic importance of this area and enjoy lunch onboard. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to stroll around the village of Strahan, a visit to the Huon Pine Mill is certainly a great place to pick up some souvenirs.

Cradle Mt - Smithton

Today's journey takes you to the far North West Coast via UNESCO World heritage listed Cradle Mountain. Unwind to the harmonic sounds of wilderness. You will have the opportunity to take the shuttle bus to Dove Lake, a glacial lake located in a spectacular setting beneath the peak of Cradle Mountain will sure be one of the highlights of your day. Enjoy some lunch (own expense) before we depart for Smithton in the afternoon.

Smithton & Stanley

An experienced Tall Timbers Guide will join your coach on a half day Tarkine Experience / Edge of the World tour. Travel into the Tarkine region including the Edge of the World Lookout. After lunch, travel to the township of Stanley. A perfectly preserved village with colonial buildings, cafes, and quality B&B cottages, all sheltering in the imposing shadow of the Nut, a volcanic rock formation rising 143m from the sea to the top. A return chair lift ride to the top of The Nut (250m in distance) is included - Stanley's famous landmark where you will enjoy breathtaking views of the historical and picturesque coastal village of Stanley.

Smithton- Launceston

This morning, depart the north-west to travel via the beautiful north coast to Tasmania's second largest city, Launceston. Travel via the seaside towns of Burnie, Ulverstone and Devonport. You will also be lucky enough to take in the Cradle to Coast tasting trail with stunning coastal vistas as a backdrop and be welcomed into a world of award-winning produce with visits to some of the local producers. Launceston is a vibrant hub for food and wine, culture, and nature. Enjoy the late afternoon and evening at leisure.

Launceston

The whole region in and around Launceston is packed with city and country charm, gorgeous old towns, excellent food and wine and beautiful scenery. The city is one of Australia's oldest cities and offers one of the best-preserved early cityscapes in Australia with its elegant Colonial and Victorian architecture and century-old parks. Just a short distance from the city centre, Cataract Gorge is a slice of wilderness right in the heart of town and Launceston's natural attraction. Today you have the opportunity to experience one of Tasmania's premier wineries - Josef Chromy Wines. Join the "Go Behind The Label Tour" to explore the wine making process from grape to glass. You will taste some wines in their unfinished state before heading to the Cellar Door for a 2-course lunch of fine Tasmanian produce with matched wines. In the afternoon, your Coach Captain will show you popular sights of Launceston.

East Coast

Spend the day travelling to Tasmania's stunning East Coast. You will travel via St Helens and spend time exploring the East Coast's largest Town. Home also to the slice of coastal heaven that is the Bay of Fires, stretching over 50km from Binalong Bay. St Helens is an old whaling town and is now Tasmania's largest fishing port. Travel further south arriving at Bicheno in the afternoon. The beaches of the Surf Coast, between Bicheno and St Helens, are perfect for surfing, walking, beachcombing and relaxing.

Bicheno - Hobart

It is time to say goodbye to the East Coast and return to Hobart, but not before visiting the Freycinet Peninsula, home to Wineglass Bay. The view is certainly worth the steep 1.5-hour return walk to the top of Wineglass Bay Lookout (there are alternative options for anyone with restricted mobility). After lunch we will continue our journey down the Great Eastern Drive, arriving in Hobart in the late afternoon.

Tasman Peninsula

Today is all about spectacular coastlines, fascinating geological features and World Heritage listed Port Arthur Historic site. Enjoy a scenic drive to the rugged Tasman Peninsula via Eaglehawk Neck, a thin isthmus once guarded by dogs to prevent convicts escaping. The coastal environment is home to the highest sea cliffs in the southern hemisphere and unique rock formations, such as Tessellated Pavement, the Blow Hole, Tasman Arch or Devil's Kitchen. Visit Port Arthur Historic Site, a special place of vivid history, cultural heritage and compelling convict stories.

Today it is time to bid our beautiful island state farewell. Depending on your flight time, you may have time to visit MONA, the Museum of Old & New Art, the Southern Hemisphere's largest privately owned art gallery.

· To secure your seat, a deposit is required immediately. This deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable to other tours. There will be a final date provided for the remainder of the package payment.

· PASSENGER FORMS: All travellers on our Multi Day and Interstate/ International Tours are required to complete a Passenger Form which includes details of dietary, mobility and next of kin. This only needs to be completed once or updated when your details change.

· COVID19 VACCINATION: We require your COVID Vaccination information and ask for copy of your Vaccination Certificate to keep on file when you pay your initial deposit for a tour booking as our suppliers such as hotels & airlines are now requiring this information.

· If we cancel a tour for any reason, we can provide a refund or credit to be used within 18 months.

· TRAVEL INSURANCE: We strongly recommend you obtain appropriate travel insurance at the time of paying your deposit for any of our multi-day tours.

· ITINERARY CHANGES: We reserve the right to alter or omit any part of the itinerary.

· SAFETY: Coal River Coaches reserves the right to decline to carry anyone if it is felt the individual cannot cope with the requirements of the tour, or who may require services that we cannot guarantee will be available, or if meals (due to certain dietary requirements) cannot be catered for.  

· SEATING: Coal River Coaches now operates with a Seat Rotation system on all Coach Tours.

· WAITLISTS: If a Tour that you want to go on is full, we can pop you on the “Waitlist”.  This means if we have a cancellation, we will contact you.
